Several years ago while I was living in Germany, my good friend, Megan, and her fiance, Jason, called me to announce that they were getting married in two weeks, and would I be their photographer? I agreed, and with that short notice, they bought my ticket and flew me to Montgomery, Alabama, to document their wedding.
Early in 2021, I got another call: Jason’s mother, Rita, was getting married to her fiance, Larry. Again, with two weeks’ notice, I was asked to come to Montgomery for the wedding- this time only from Atlanta. Of course, I said yes; Rita has become a dear friend over the years, and I was thrilled that she had found love during Covid, as I had.
It was a beautiful weekend; a small, intimate wedding in a charming backyard. Rita and Larry were surrounded by fifteen of their friends. She wore a stunning gown found in a local shop; he surprised her that morning by renting a tux and waiting at the bottom of the stairs for his bride. The young-at-heart couple could’ve been taken for twenty-somethings, with the lilt in their step and the stars in their eyes.
Larry and his children were a joy to meet, and I was so happy for him and Rita. It was an honor to photograph their vows, to document the covenant they made to each other that day, and to record the love they share. I’m so happy for them and the future they have together.
